I'm not going to go into in-depth detail about how I made Ashley's dress, but I will give you a few behind the scenes looks. :)
The dress was made from dupioni silk purchased at JoAnn Fabrics. The lining was their brand, "Posh", which I really like, and the petticoat had purple netting!
The beautiful, scrolly designs that look like embroidery, aren't embroidery at all. Here's the secret: they're multicolored satins and silks that I cut out in a plethora of designs on my Cricut. I think it turned out more fun, artsy, and gorgeous than any embroidery I could have done!

As with any dress, it had to start somewhere! We had a few muslin fittings, and to show her what the heck I was talking about with all these designs I wanted to put on her dress (though I did show her drawings), I just drew all over the muslin. :)
After some of the boring stuff (like trying on the shell of the dress made from the real silk), I got to start the fun stuff: decorating the dress. We went shopping for all kinds of random fabrics. Ashley really had to trust me on this one, because I was picking out fabrics based on their color and shine; and where and how the color was placed. I knew once I cut it up on the Cricut, it would look totally different than I did on the bolt, but she wasn't always totally convinced. :)
But she trusted me, and I began cutting. I chose several scrolling designs and vining designs (we definitely consulted on these choices!) from several cartridges. I backed all the fabric with Heat N' Bond Ultra (I keep saying I owe you a post on this, and I do!) and started running it through the Cricut. I cut out different shapes and sizes. Different shadows and backgrounds. I just kept cutting things out so I would have plenty to choose from once I began assembling everything on the dress.
While the dress was unlined, but the shell was totally sewn together (except the zipper), I started ironing my designs onto the dress. I would just place them as I went, eyeballing the overall shape and design, and the placement of the colors.
For a final touch, I added various versions of purple rhinestones, for just a little bit more glitter. :)
Here are a few more pictures of the finished dress. :)
And a cute wedding photo:
